Job description

Our client is a Toronto-based leading international financial services company. They have engaged ROSS (www.getROSS.com) to help them recruit a Senior Database Analyst. ROSS is a team of People Specialists helping companies align their People Strategy with their business growth. We provide contingency recruitment in addition to remote or onsite HR and Recruitment solutions such as Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Recruitment Augmentation.

You will be part of the Oracle Database Services Team of Data Management Services, responsible for full DB support of our client’s Oracle Applications. Responsibilities will extend beyond traditional DBA realm to provide management and coaching of other database analysts.

Requirements:

• Strong Knowledge of Oracle DBMS with 8+ years of experience.
• Experience with running DBMS in Unix Operating System on Solaris and AIX platforms.
• Knowledge of Unix scripting.
• Fluent in Oracle Grid monitoring and Oracle utilities.
• Experience with packaged applications such as Siebel, Siebel Analytics, Filenet, and Oracle Financials is an asset.
• Fast learner.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and high team spirit are essential.
• Possess management and coaching skills.
• You must work well in a fast-paced, changing environment and be able to manage multiple tasks, projects, and initiatives all with different priorities at the same time.
• Candidate must possess a genuine desire to provide service excellence to their IT customers.
• Must demonstrate proven ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and drive issues to resolution.
• Must possess a mindset to constantly look for improvement and streamline processes.

Main accountabilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain complex Oracle databases including support of large data warehouse applications and packaged applications such as Siebel, Siebel Analytics, and Oracle Financials.
• Monitor and tune physical databases and provide guidance on SQL tunings to developers.
• Adhere to our client’s standards and implement security in compliance with the SOX requirements.
• Perform software and security upgrades to databases and software components as necessary.
• Perform database changes and code promotions according to our client’s change management process.
• Contribute to the systems development process by providing technical support, training, and guidelines for the database management system environment under general guidance.
• Assist application developers with data-related components of the development cycle, particularly logical & physical database design.
• Exploit database productivity tools to perform database services functions and automate processes when appropriate.
• Contribute to teamwork and to providing service excellence.
• Contribute to research and development of new technologies and setting directions.
• Contribute to the development of standards and guidelines.
• Keep abreast of the latest technical developments by continuous review of technical literature and regular attendance at appropriate seminars and conferences.
• Participate in disaster recovery testing.
• Provide 24 X 7 rotation on-call support on the supported products. Responses to on-call is as per our client’s SLA.
