Reporting To: EHS Manager, Engineering & Field Services

CAREER OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Safety Advisor supporting our EHS programs within the Engineering and Technical Field Services operations. Reporting to the EHS Manager, Engineering & Field Services, the successful candidate will be accountable to develop and maintain the company wide safety program through policy updates, training and audits. This individual will drive EHS efforts throughout the organization to ensure adherence to EHS standards and develop a strong EHS culture of safety.

Accountabilities

  • Assist with all aspects of the company’s EHS program for assigned business units
  • Complete EHS policy updates to ensure our EHS manual is up to date, effective, and implemented
  • Work closely with department managers to understand and execute the company’s EHS program, policies, and procedures
  • Assist in the development of EHS strategies and implement corporate and department initiatives focused on safety
  • Act as a resource providing EHS support for leaders and employees.
  • Develop, as required, and maintain all necessary safety documentation.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to identify causes and assist with the preparation of formal reports, monitor the completion of corrective actions.
  • Manage worker’s compensation claims
  • Assist employees with reporting of incidents, Near Misses and Hazard Identification.
  • Lead major incident investigations
  • Facilitate company-wide EHS program audits including Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit
  • Conduct and lead effective EHS meetings
  • Conduct periodic site EHS audits
  • Provide training to site leaders on conducting effective audits
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations; as well as performing hazard assessments on site
  • Monitor and conduct EHS inspections (formal and non-formal) on site – minimum 10/year
  • Act as the lead EHS contact for client communication
  • Understand the clients’ safety programs and ensure our personnel and policies are aligned
  • Support the development and delivery of EHS training including Safety orientation for new hires and other required EHS training
  • Influence business unit management and employees to adhere to safety policies and procedures through expertise, coaching, and training
  • Work collaboratively with business managers to develop a strong EHS culture

SPECIAL DUTIES AND INVOLVEMENT

  • Participate in setting long and short-term goals for all regions
  • Participate in the maintenance of EHS materials and content
  • Participate in document review committee
  • Support the build and monitoring of the companies Safety Management Software.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in an EHS role working in an Engineering or Technical Field Services environment
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health & Safety or relevant field experience
  • Experience in the electrical discipline is an asset
  • Deep understanding of legal EHS guidelines and regulations.
  • Working towards (or willing to work towards) National Safety Construction Officer (NCSO)
  • Experience with Alberta Construction Safety Association Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and internal auditor would be an asset
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and influence all levels of the organization
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills with an outstanding attention to detail and observation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external clients
  • Proven commitment to EHS
  • Must be able to travel to client sites
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license
  • A positive, “can-do” attitude, is highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable.
  • Advanced understanding and use of Microsoft 365 programs.
