This position is for Teacher Librarian (0.25 FTE) and Learning Assistance Teacher (0.3075 FTE). The successful applicant, without formal qualifications, must enroll in and start a certificate program upon acceptance of the posting.

This position may increase. The successful applicant must be willing to accept the increase.

Windrem Elementary School

Windrem Elementary School is a student-centered Kindergarten to Grade 7 school located in the small town of Chetwynd, BC. We offer House Team Events, a provincially funded after-school program, the Me to We Program, and various clubs and activities. Our active Parent Advisory Committee supports programs and events through volunteering and fundraising.

Our central location provides access to programs at the Chetwynd Public Library, Recreation Centre, and Secondary School. We are within walking distance of local businesses, offering opportunities for community interaction. The Chetwynd trail system and green spaces promote outdoor activities.

Many staff are long-time residents with extensive local knowledge. We also have staff experienced in relocating to new communities or provinces. Accommodation options, including apartments and private residences, are within walking distance, as are grocery stores, restaurants, banks, and medical services.

Desired qualifications and experience include:

  • Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience in curriculum adaptation for diverse student needs.
  • Experience teaching primary to secondary students.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills; willingness to implement school initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of social responsibility performance standards.
  • Familiarity with the new curriculum outcomes and evaluation processes.
  • Experience with individualized and group instruction using effective strategies.
  • Experience teaching in multiage settings.
  • Training in teaching ELL students.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs.
  • Willingness to collaborate on the school improvement plan.
  • Knowledge of Criterion-Based Referencing and Performance-Based Assessment, and Balanced Literacy.
  • Experience working with students displaying various behaviors.
