Job Description

MU TITLE: Educational Program Associate I
LOCATION: Howell County - West Plains, MO

The University of Missouri (MU) Office of Extension and Engagement's mission is to improve lives, communities, and economies through educational strategies across Missouri. Our faculty and staff collaborate with researchers and community leaders to develop programs addressing educational attainment, environmental concerns, community and economic development, global food systems, and health systems. The MU Extension 4-H Center for Youth Development focuses on developing youth leadership, citizenship, and life skills. To learn more, visit 4h.missouri.edu.

This position supports 4-H Youth Development programs in the assigned area, under the guidance of the 4-H Youth Development Specialist.

Essential Duties
  1. Advocate for positive youth development within the community and MU Extension.
  2. Develop and expand local partnerships with schools, community centers, and youth organizations.
  3. Foster internal partnerships among UM Colleges and Missouri Extension programs.
  4. Assist with planning, managing, marketing, implementing, and evaluating curricula focused on leadership, civic engagement, STEM, health, agriculture, and career exploration.
  5. Build capacity among volunteers and community partners.
  6. Engage and empower volunteers and partners for program delivery.
  7. Develop youth leadership skills.
  8. Manage financial and in-kind resources.
  9. Coordinate educational events, contests, camps, and programs.
  10. Promote state and national events and contests.
  11. Report achievements and impacts to supervisors and stakeholders.
  12. Maintain records and prepare reports for 4-H programs.
  13. Ensure accessibility of extension programs for all county residents.
  14. Participate in training and professional development.
  15. Conduct activities in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  16. Perform other duties as needed to support MU Extension's mission.
Leadership and Attributes

Supervision is received from the Field Specialist in 4-H Youth Development. The position does not involve supervision of others.

Core attributes include high standards of excellence, teamwork, civility, and respect. Effective communication, self-direction, adaptability, and commitment to safe, inclusive environments are essential.

University Information

The University of Missouri, known as Mizzou, is the state's land-grant university and a comprehensive research institution. It enrolls over 30,000 students and is located in Columbia, MO. MU Extension operates across all campuses and in 114 counties plus St. Louis city.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with some evenings and weekends required for travel and program activities.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with some relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

At least six hours in youth development domains such as youth and adult development, learning strategies, organizational systems, and community partnerships. Experience working with children in group settings is desirable. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, self-motivation, and initiative are important.

  • Ability to synthesize and communicate information effectively.
  • Experience in recruiting and training volunteers for 4-H programs.
Anticipated Salary Range

$14.00 - $17.00 per hour, Grade GGS-005. Internal applicants can find their university title via myHR.
