Job summary

KLS Earthworks Inc. is seeking an experienced Earthworks Supervisor to lead field crews across active construction sites in Western Canada. You will oversee excavation, grading, and related earthworks, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time performance.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong reading of drawings, coordination with multiple teams, and the ability to maintain production targets while mentoring staff. A safety-first culture and career growth opportunities are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years’ experience in Earthworks Foreman/Supervisor or Lead Hand role.
  • Strong knowledge of civil earthworks and heavy equipment operations.
  • Experience supervising crews on commercial, industrial, municipal, or large civil construction projects.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations.
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and construction site requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise earthworks crews on active construction sites.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work activities, manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Direct operators, laborers, grade checkers, and other field personnel.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, survey, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, plans, and specifications.
  • Oversee excavation, grading, site preparation, backfill, compaction, roadwork, and related earthworks activities.
  • Ensure crews understand daily production targets, priorities, and expectations.
  • Monitor productivity and adjust crew or equipment assignments as required.
  • Ensure work is completed according to project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Complete and maintain required daily field documentation.
  • Lead toolbox meetings, FLHAs, and other required safety activities.
  • Identify changing site conditions, hazards, delays, and potential issues and communicate them to the appropriate project team.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure company policies and site requirements are followed.
  • Mentor and support employees while maintaining accountability for performance, attendance, and workmanship.
  • Assist with coordinating equipment mobilization, maintenance requirements, and site logistics.
