Job summary

KLS Earthworks & Environmental, based in Calgary, seeks an experienced Underground Supervisor to lead crews in underground utility installation for civil construction projects. You will coordinate daily activities, ensure safety, quality, and on-time progress, and collaborate with project management to keep work moving.

The role requires hands-on leadership, thorough knowledge of underground systems, reading drawings, and a commitment to safety in all field activities.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years’ experience as an Underground Foreman/Supervisor or Lead Hand in Underground Utility construction.
• Strong experience with underground utility installation, including water, sanitary, and storm systems.
• Good understanding of City of Calgary underground utility specifications.
• Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations.

KLS Earthworks & Environmental is seeking an experienced Underground Supervisor to join our Calgary-based team. We’re looking for a strong field leader with hands‑on experience in underground utilities and civil construction. This role is responsible for leading crews in the safe and efficient installation of underground infrastructure while keeping projects moving, maintaining quality, and working closely with Operations Superintendents and project management.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and supervise underground crews on civil construction projects.
• Coordinate daily activities, manpower, equipment, and materials.
• Oversee installation of water, sanitary, storm, and related underground utilities.

• Monitor productivity and keep work progressing according to schedule.
• Complete required daily documentation and communicate project progress to site supervision.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices and KLS safety requirements.
• Mentor crew members and help build a productive, respectful team environment.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years’ experience as an Underground Foreman/Supervisor or Lead Hand in Underground Utility construction.
• Strong experience with underground utility installation, including water, sanitary, and storm systems.
• Good understanding of City of Calgary underground utility specifications.
• Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, bedding, backfill, compaction, and underground construction practices.
• Proven ability to lead crews and organize work effectively.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Safety-focused with the ability to lead by example.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and meet the physical demands of civil construction.
