Reporting to the Superintendent, the Earthworks Foreman leads field operations on heavy civil construction sites with a focus on excavation, grading, and road building. This role is responsible for directing a crew and coordinating equipment to meet project timelines and quality standards. The ideal candidate is a working leader with experience in large-scale earthworks, road construction, and paving prep.

This position is based in Grande Prairie, and we are seeking candidates who can commit to the full duration of the construction season. How You’ll Add Value
  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Lead the day-to-day earthworks activities including subgrade prep, road grading, granular placement, and final trims
  • Coordinate and supervise operators, laborers, and subcontractors to maintain progress in line with the project schedule
  • Plan work two to three days ahead, ensuring proper staging of materials, equipment, and inspections (e.g. compaction testing, survey layout)
  • Monitor grade tolerances and surface quality, collaborating with survey and QC personnel to ensure compliance
  • Mentor crew members and support ongoing training in equipment operation, GPS usage, and civil work best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and skill development
  • Communicate effectively with the superintendent, project manager, clients, and stakeholders to resolve issues and stay aligned on priorities to ensure smooth project execution
  • Maintain accurate daily records including equipment hours, crew timesheets, material quantities, and progress photos
  • Inspect and coordinate maintenance for assigned equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Utilize your knowledge of GPS machine control to optimize operations and improve efficiency
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a Foreman in heavy civil earthworks and road construction
  • Hands-on knowledge of grading, subbase/base prep, and granular placement in road and paving environments
  • Familiarity with GPS machine control is a strong asset
  • Experience operating equipment (e.g. dozers, graders, excavators) is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
