Job description

Summary of Position

Abalone Construction is a privately owned company with over 30 years of experience specializing in industrial and commercial civil construction. We provide services across various markets including infrastructure, roadbuilding, and land development.

Reporting to the foreman, operators are a vital part of our field operations, responsible for supporting all our projects.

Roundabout: Road building, stripping, grading, finish work, reading stakes, GPS skills (asset), D6 operating, highway improvements.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Operate and maintain the dozer safely and efficiently.
  2. Perform minor maintenance and inspections.
  3. Use dozer controls to regulate the height and angle of the blade.
  4. Drive the dozer to level terrain as specified by the superintendent.
  5. Follow grade marks on stakes or hand signals.
  6. Level soil, rock, and debris.
  7. Understand roadway plans, drawings, and grades.
  8. Follow instructions and collaborate with team members to complete tasks.
  9. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Training, and Education

  • Minimum 3-5 seasons of experience with sloping and leveling (finish work).
  • At least 5 seasons as a finish dozer operator.
  • Experience on commercial and industrial projects is an asset.
  • Gradesman experience is considered an asset.
  • Valid CSTS-09, WHMIS 2015, Ground Disturbance certifications, and CSA-approved 6” steel toe work boots are required.
  • Hardworking, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
  • Desire to complete tasks promptly.
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required.

Working Conditions

Operators work outdoors in all weather conditions, often sitting in vehicles or walking/standing on job sites. Willingness to commit to 50+ hours per week at various locations, including most Saturdays. Typical shifts are from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
