Job Description for Early Years Practitioner Apprentice at Ancaster Village Day Nursery

WHO are Ancaster Village Day Nursery?

The Nursery offers quality childcare for children aged from 6 weeks old, in a home from home, safe and fun environment, with a team of experienced, highly skilled and caring childcare professionals including a qualified Forest School leader.

The Nursery consists of three age-specific rooms, all leading onto their own outdoor patios and gardens with play space for all weather. The garden is surrounded by open fields housing horses and rabbits, a place where the children love to watch and say hello to the animals next door.

WHAT will I get from working with Ancaster Village Day Nursery?
  • EARN: £7.55 per hour, 30-40 hours per week
  • EXPERIENCE: Your hours will be Monday to Friday, between 7.45am and 6pm.
  • QUALIFICATION: Early Years Practitioner Level 2, taking approximately 16 months.

WHAT will my DAY look like?

You will join a supportive, homely staff team who look after each other while nurturing the children and their families. You will play a vital role in supporting children’s care and development, gaining practical skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship program. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Assisting with breakfast and supporting children who may struggle to leave parents in the morning.
  • Helping to set up age-appropriate activities based on children’s interests.
  • Following routines and best practices modeled by staff.
  • Engaging in outdoor play in all weather conditions, ensuring proper clothing, and getting down to the children’s level, which may include getting dirty.
  • Helping serve lunch while adhering to allergies and dietary requirements.
  • Assisting staff with children’s sleep routines.
  • Supporting toileting and nappy changes.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of the environment.
  • Gaining experience across different age groups by helping in various rooms.
  • Spending a minimum of 6 hours per week on apprenticeship work and training.
HOW does the Apprenticeship Work?

Working towards your Early Years Practitioner Level 2 qualification, you’ll attend monthly 1-2-1 online meetings with your tutor. Modules include child development from birth to 7 years, safeguarding, promoting wellbeing, supporting activities, purposeful play, educational programmes, and more. You will have at least 3 hours per week dedicated to completing apprenticeship work (assignments, research, projects), plus at least another 3 hours of training from your employer. All work and training are completed in the workplace during working hours.

  • UK residency – must have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and customer care skills.
  • Non-judgemental attitude and patience.
What happens next?
