Job description

The opportunity

As an Investment Analyst in Portfolio Solutions, the primary responsibilities will be to support portfolio management and data strategy across our private investment holdings. This role will oversee, analyze, and report on investment performance of our Private Equity investments, with ongoing exposure to several other private asset classes at Teachers’ (e.g., Infrastructure & Natural Resources, Venture Growth, Real Estate).

Who you'll work with

The Teachers’ Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG) was formed to achieve enhanced integration of value creation and portfolio management activities, and to drive investment data insights capabilities. The group is organized into Value Creation and Portfolio Management hubs. The team’s ambition is to leverage portfolio company and enterprise-level data to generate insights, in driving investment strategy and enhancing portfolio management and value creation efforts. Working closely across PSG and alongside investment teams in each of the asset classes, your role will be to contribute to the execution of portfolio management analytics, strategic projects, and ad-hoc deliverables.

What you'll do

  • Play an active and foundational role in our data modernization efforts across private asset classes, including the build out of our investments data infrastructure and growing our investments data and analytics practice

  • Liaise across Investments and technology teams to build out our portfolio monitoring capabilities for existing investments, and develop insights on potential opportunities

  • Manage and analyze large datasets to generate actionable analytics and ensure data integrity across reporting platforms

  • Assist with operationalizing quarterly data collection of financial and non-financial KPIs for our private investments via external portfolio management platform. Contribute to ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies and fund investments, including quarterly portfolios reviews and semi-annual valuation processes

  • Contribute to regular and ad-hoc portfolio-wide analytics and reporting across all asset classes, including tracking detailed KPIs for investment teams and senior leadership (e.g. asset class heads, Total Fund Management, Chief Investment Officers, etc.)

  • Develop a thorough understanding of relevant performance benchmarks, exposures, concentrations, and risk frameworks to inform portfolio construction and asset allocation decisions

  • Play a key role in long-term capital planning, as well as short term liquidity forecasting on behalf of the asset class; assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget

  • Share best practices and standardize internal processes across asset classes

  • Build strong and lasting relationships with the investment and functional teams at OTPP across all levels

What you'll need

  • A recent degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline with a track record of excellent academic performance

  • Min 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably in one of top tier management consulting firms, investment banking, or private equity

  • Experience in working with structured and unstructured databases and leveraging data analytics packages in driving actionable insights

  • Ability to meet tight timelines and operate in a highly competitive and demanding work environment

  • Ability to tell a story to senior stakeholders using data and relevant visualizations

  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and data management skills with a knack for performing complex, in-depth analysis

  • Keen attention to detail and unmatched ability to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies

  • Self-motivated with the dedication to perform in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong understanding of fundamental investing and private asset valuations

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and collaboration skills

  • High degree of professionalism and integrity

  • Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
