Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking an Early Learning Assistant (Extended Day Program) to support after-school childcare and school break periods. Working under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, you will enhance child-based play, encourage and guide students, and model appropriate behaviour while supporting program objectives.

A working knowledge of English is required, with qualifications including a high school diploma and relevant childcare experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year post-secondary experience providing childcare to school age children in a group setting.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid Standard First Aid certification/CPR Level C is required.
• Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector is required (last 6 months for new employees).
• Immunization Record with MMR and Tdap is required.
• Declaration of previously having chicken pox or immunization is required.

• Assist in providing childcare to students after school programs.
• Enhance child-based play and supervise activities.

Overview

Summary : Working under the direction of the Early Childhood Educator, the Early Learning Assistant (Extended Day Program) assists in the provision of childcare to students after school (including professional activity day and school break periods); enhancing child-based play; encouraging and guiding, and modeling appropriate behaviour techniques. Performs other duties to support the overall objectives and goals of the program. A working knowledge of English is required.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a High School diploma, and;
• Minimum one (1) year post-secondary experience providing childcare to school age children in a group setting;
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
• Valid Standard First Aid certification/CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider is required.
• Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector, valid within the last 6 months is required for new employees to the OCDSB. Valid within the last 5 years for current OCDSB employees
• Immunization Record with MMR and Tdap vaccination is required.
• Declaration of previously having the chicken pox (or chicken pox immunization) is required.

Pay Expectations

$19.79 - $24.84 + 4% vacation pay/hour.

Please note that at least 1 full year of ELA term or regular experience with the OCDSB is required for starting wage above $19.79 + 4% vacation pay/hour.
