Job summary

Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is seeking an Educational Assistant for a 100% term position, 35 hours a week. You will provide essential support to students with exceptional needs under the guidance of the principal.

Responsibilities include assisting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, implementing special programs, and supporting students with learning disabilities. A community college diploma in DSW/CYW or equivalent and experience with special needs children are required.

The role offers a salary of $28.45 per hour plus vacation pay.

Educational Assistant - 100% Term, 35 hours/week, 7:45am - 3:25pm

Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. Responsibilities include supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities; participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches. Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by Employee Services staff. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is an asset. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training. Please ensure that you include copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.

Current Assignment

• Developmental Disabilities Program (DDP), Experience working or living with people with developmental disabilities. Swimming and toileting students up to age 21 is mandatory. Understanding and experience working with AAC is highly desirable.

Who Can Apply

In accordance with the Student Support Personnel's Collective Agreement, O.S.S.T.F. District 25, and further to Articles 23.04 and 23:07 qualified regular part-time employees are eligible to increase their status and apply to part-time term vacancies if it does not interfere with their regular assignment, subject to Article 13:03; (i.e. 30 minutes between assignments or travel time, whichever is greater, without impact on current part-time hours of work). Regular full-time employees are not eligible to apply for term vacancies.

NOTE

As per the SSP Collective Agreement, EAs who have already accepted terms for the 2026/2027 school year that end June 25, 2027 are not eligible to apply unless to increase status.

Salary

$28.45 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay. This position does not come with paid vacation days. Percentage vacation pay is provided in lieu.
