Job description

Location: Powell River/qathet Regional District

Hours Per Week: on call

Salary Or Wage: $24.89 to $28.19 per hour

Job Type: Casual

List of Requirements
  • Completion of a recognized Early Childhood Education program
  • Previous work experience in a licensed childcare program would be an asset
  • Individuals with Indigenous ancestry preferred.
  • Successful Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Recent TB test
  • Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract would be an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Food Safe certification, or willingness to obtain
List of Duties
  • Plans, prepares, and carries out developmentally appropriate programs and activities
  • Works as a team player in implementing daily activities – art, songs, games, stories etc.
  • Conducts activities with children on an individual and group basis
  • Follows assigned duties related to the daily routines (outdoor play, snack/lunch, rest time, toileting, etc)
  • Supports cultural aspects of programming and employs ʔayʔaǰuθəm words and phrases to the best of their ability
  • Complies with program policies and procedures
  • Monitors children’s safety and well-being
  • Ensures every child’s development needs are met and works collaboratively with the Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) team, as needed, in doing so.
  • Reads and respects any ISCD individual plan for a child in their program
  • Maintains constant supervision of the children in indoor/outdoor activities and during rest periods
  • Ensures guidance, discipline and behaviour expectations are consistent
  • Attends to children’s physical needs while applying good hygiene practices and keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean
  • Fosters open communication with families/caregivers and other team members, documents, and maintains records as directed
  • Welcomes and greets all parents and children daily
  • Communicates child’s progress with parent/caregiver and any needs or concerns discerned
  • Communicates program activities to families
  • Orients families into program when designated to do so
  • Maintains program records – attendance, communication log, child observations, incident reports, etc.
  • Signs-in and out accurately every work day
  • Submits accurate timesheets on time
  • Submits leave requests within the required timelines
  • Communicates absence to manager before scheduled start time
  • Supports all early childhood programs and initiatives and performs other related duties as required
  • May be required to attend meetings
  • May be designated to attend professional development training
  • May provide direction to ECE I workers, summer students, and/or volunteers
  • Supports the team to meet the requirements of Childcare Program Licensing
  • Abides by provincial child care regulations
  • Works within the ECEBC Code of Ethics
  • Abides by Tla’amin Nation early childhood policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the program’s children, families, and staff
  • Reports any concerns or issues to the manager related to program delivery, child well-being, and licensing regulations.
