Job summary

Kepler Academy Early Learning & Child Care is seeking an Early Childhood Educator for our Sunlife downtown location. This casual role runs Monday to Friday, 3 hours daily (3pm-6pm), totaling 15 hours per week, with a focus on nurturing young minds and ensuring safety and development.

You will deliver age-appropriate activities, support infant to before/after school care, and collaborate with a dedicated team to foster Exploratory Education™, STEM, discovery, and child-led learning.

Qualifications

  • Provincial Alberta Child Development Certificate (Level 1-3).
  • Valid Standard Child Care / Level C First Aid certificate.
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check within the past 6 months.
  • Previous childcare experience is asset.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of childcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging activities to support children's physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
  • Lead story time, songs, games, and creative activities and plan age-appropriate field trips or local outings.
  • Create and maintain a safe, healthy classroom environment and supervise children at all times.
  • Observe and assess children and communicate progress to parents and staff.
  • Assist with meal times, hygiene routines and toilet habits as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external childcare partners to support children's needs.
  • May supervise and support other educators in the program.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and organize materials for daily activities.

We are looking for a Early Childhood Educator to join our Sunlife downtown location.


Employment Type: Casual

What do we need from you?

Early Childhood Educators at Kepler Academy will primarily lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth and ensure their security and well‑being. You will also organize and implement programs for children ranging from infant care up to out-of-school-care.


As an Early Childhood Educator, we are looking for individuals with a passion for shaping young minds. You will play an integral role in families lives by providing an enriched experience for children.


What will you do?


  • Develop and implement child‑care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children

  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, playing games, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity

  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well‑being of children

  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members

  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor

  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co‑workers and community service providers working with children

  • May plan and organize activities for school‑age children in child‑care programs before and after regular school hours

  • May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants

  • Classroom maintenance and light cleaning duties required

  • May conduct diaper changes and support with handwashing and hygiene

  • Ability to engage in active play, including bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions


Required qualifications to work at Kepler Academy:


  • Child Development Certificate issued in the Province of Alberta, Level 1, 2 or 3

  • Valid Standard Child Care / Level C First Aid certificate
