Support Early Childhood Educators (ECE) are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 5047 (CUPE). The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Support ECE works alongside the Lead ECE to enhance children's learning experiences by understanding their needs, preparing materials, arranging learning centres, observing activities, and facilitating movement between activities. They collaborate to create a respectful, stimulating, safe, and nurturing environment and report directly to the Supervisor of the Pre-Primary Program.

Qualifications :

  • A diploma, certificate, or degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution
  • ECE Level 2 classification, or ECE Level 1 with at least one year of experience working with preschool children in a childcare setting. Note: Entry Level and School Age Approval are not equivalent to Level 1 or higher ECE classification.
  • Recent experience (within the past 5 years) working with preschool children
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Training or experience in a play-based learning environment is an asset

Rate of Pay :

This is a 10-month position aligned with the school calendar, with time off during Christmas, March Break, and summer. The starting annual salary is $37,648.56, paid over 12 months (August 1 to July 31) for the 10-month school year, with bi-weekly pay. Salaries for shorter-term positions are pro-rated accordingly.

Hours of Work :

Support ECEs work 6.5 hours daily, including a ½ hour unpaid lunch and two 15-minute paid breaks, Monday to Friday.
