Job summary

School District No. 73 is seeking Early Childhood Educator relief staff for Kamloops and surrounding areas, including Barriere and Chase. Relief employees support Strong Start, Pre-School, seamless day, and before/after school programs, visiting multiple sites as needed.

Applicants must hold an ECE license, with Senior Practitioner designation preferred, and have 3 months to 1 year of relevant experience. A valid First Aid/CPR and BC driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with a two-year post-secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education.
• Licensed Early Childhood Educator Senior Practitioner with current license to practice.
• Experience with children (0–5) for 3+ months up to 1 year in an educational setting.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certificates; valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Fill in for regular staff in Strong Start, Pre-School, Seamless Day, and After School Care programs.
• Visit multiple schools/district sites to support staff and students.
• Develop and deliver age-appropriate activities for 0–5 year olds.
• Prepare snacks, materials, newsletters, and parent communications.
• Assist with program planning, safety procedures, and reporting hazards.

Job description

School District No. 73 is currently accepting applications for our Early Childhood Educator Relief Roster for Kamloops and the surrounding area (including Barriere and Chase).

ECE Relief employees must possess a valid Early Childhood Educator license.

Duties

Our relief staff fill in for our regular employees in our Strong Start, Pre-School, Seamless Day, and Before and After School Care programs when they are away. As a relief employee you will have the opportunity to visit many of our schools and district sites, and support the staff and students of School District No. 73. Relief employees are able to post on internal vacancies that come available.

TYPICAL DUTIES

• Assists with the development of various social, emotional and curriculum needs.
• Plans daily classroom activities and curriculum suitable for ages 0 to 5 years.
• Facilitates programs involving art, science, literature, music and physical activities.
• Prepares program for healthy snacks include purchase of materials, preparation and clean up.
• Prepares and modifies a variety of classroom materials as required.
• Prepares Newsletters and communications to parents.
• May be necessary to support parents including referrals to appropriate agencies/resources towards successful parenting.
• Required to follow all safe work procedures, participate in Occupational Health and Safety Training, and report any hazards in the workplace
• Other assigned job related duties.

Abilities, Knowledge And Skills

• Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with the public, students, teachers, Principals and other employees of the Board.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to identify and perform a variety of tasks within the program plan.
• Ability to perform clerical tasks of limited scope.
• Ability to welcome parents/caregivers and initiate parents/caregivers into the program.
• Knowledge of the stages of development with early learners and ability to adjust programs as needed.
• Basic Computer Skills

Qualifications

• Grade 12 supplemented by a minimum of two (2) year post-secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education.
• Licensed Early Childhood Educator Senior Practitioner (IT) with a current license to Practice.
• Over 3 months, up to and including one (1) year proven previous work experience involving children (0-5) preferably in an educational setting.
• Must have a valid First Aid Certificate and CPR as per ECE License
• A valid B.C. Driver’s License.
