Work setting: Child care centre

Tasks:

  1. Assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties
  2. Bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers
  3. Maintain daycare equipment
  4. Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
  5. Encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  6. Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts
  7. Guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
  8. Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  9. Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors
  10. Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
  11. Knowledge of licensing regulations
  12. Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
  13. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  14. Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children
  15. Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after school hours
