Job summary

Children's Discovery Centre in British Columbia is seeking an early childhood assistant to support development programs and daily routines for children. You will help with housekeeping, meal preparation, and engaging activities that promote physical, cognitive, emotional and social growth.

Role requires collaboration with educators, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to safety. Light staff supervision and participation in meetings are expected as part of a dynamic childcare team.

Qualifications

• Candidate holds a college diploma or certificate in a relevant program.
• Emergency child care first aid and CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties.
• Develop and implement child-care programs that support development.
• Maintain daycare equipment and safety standards.
• Assist educators to carry out development programs for children.
• Lead activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and visiting local spots.
• Keep records with educators or supervisors and participate in meetings.
• Encourage creativity through art, drama, music, and movement.
• Guide children in eating, dressing and toilet habits.
• Prepare snacks and arrange spaces for lunch and rest periods.
• Discuss children's progress and problems at staff meetings.
• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems.
• Establish collaborative relationships with coworkers and community providers.
• Plan activities that protect health, security and well-being of children.
• Organize activities for school-age children before/after school hours.
• Administer first-aid and provide other assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
• Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
• Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
• Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
• Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
• Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
• Knowledge of licensing regulations
• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
• Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
• Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
