Responsibilities
  • Assess the children’s development to prepare learning plans tailored to their needs
  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development
  • Maintain daycare equipment
  • Synthesize the overall situation of the children and communicate information to parents
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest
  • Order supplies and equipment
  • Encourage creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  • Guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
  • Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
  • Establish guidelines for behaviour and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers
  • Plan and maintain a healthy, safe, and well-being focused environment
Qualifications
  • Education: College/CEGEP
  • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years
  • Memberships/Certificates: Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE); First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate
  • Security and safety: Criminal record check; Immunization records; Tuberculosis test
  • Knowledge of licensing regulations; ability to establish and follow behaviour guidelines
