Overview

An Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) works under the supervision of certified Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) to provide care, support, and an educational environment to young children in a childcare setting. As this is for a new childcare facility, ECEAs will be essential in helping the new facility run smoothly and will contribute to shaping a positive and nurturing environment for both children and staff.

Start Date : As soon as possible – May 2025

Salary : Max $23 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Child Supervision & Care

Assist in supervising children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring safety and well-being.

  • Support routine care activities such as feeding, diapering, toileting, and hygiene maintenance.
  • Support children's development of executive functions.
  • Program Support

Assist the lead ECE in preparing and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that promote executive functions.

  • Organize materials for daily activities based on child development data.
  • Encourage children’s participation and independence during activities.
  • Health & Safety

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, following safety protocols.

  • Assist in health checks and report concerns to the supervising ECE.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and hygiene practices.
  • Child Observation & Communication

Observe and record children's behaviors to monitor development.

  • Communicate observations and concerns to the lead ECE.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers.
  • Facility Support

Help set up and organize the facility for daily operations.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and educational materials.
  • Participate in daily cleanup and organization.

Collaborate with other staff to foster a positive learning environment.

  • Participate in team meetings and support center operations.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Educator Assistant Certificate from an accredited institution in British Columbia.
  • Registration with the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development as an ECEA.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Knowledge of BC's Early Learning Framework and inclusion practices is an asset.
  • Experience with children in licensed settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, remain flexible, and be patient.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous perspectives and cultural competence valued.
  • Experience with digital platforms is an asset.
  • Flexibility for various shifts, including early mornings, late afternoons, evenings, or weekends.
  • Physical ability to engage in active play, lift children, and participate in outdoor activities.
  • Initial training and orientation may be required before the center's opening.

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector search.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain within three months.
  • Up-to-date immunizations as per BC childcare regulations.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs and engage in active play.
