The University of Victoria is seeking an Early Childhood Educator to join its Child Care program, responsible for providing innovative early learning and care to young children of full-time students, staff, and faculty. The position requires in-depth knowledge of early childhood frameworks, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to inclusivity and ongoing professional development.
University of Victoria (UVic) Child Care provides on-campus, innovative, creative, inspiring, and responsive early learning and care to young children of UVic full-time students, staff and faculty. The pedagogy for all UVic child care programs is founded on the BC Ministry of Child Care and Education’s BC Early Learning Framework (2019) and the Common Worlds Framework.
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) works as a member of the child care team providing early learning and care to children who are aged 30 months to school aged (three to five year olds). The ECE works in ratio in the program under the supervision of the ECE Supervisor or Program Manager and follows UVic Child Care pedagogy, ethos and policies; the BC Early Learning Framework; the ECEBC Code of Ethics; BC Community Care and Assisted Living Act; and Child Care Licensing Regulations.
All staff who work in UVic Child Care must be immunized in accordance with the childhood immunization schedule The ECE must also possess sufficient stamina for full-time work in a busy full day child care centre. The position is physically demanding and includes lifting up to 15 kg, crouching, squatting, bending, standing for long periods of time, supervising outdoor play, walking, and sitting on floor. Please note that our child care programs spend several hours a day outdoors year round.
Experience
Entry level experience for BC certified Early Childhood Educator with demonstrated experience implementing the BC Early Learning Framework (BC Government, 2019) in a group child care setting.
