Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates in Materials Science or Mechanical programs.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineering Co-op Student will work at EVRAZ NA's Research and Development Centre located just North of Regina, Saskatchewan for a period of 4, 8 or 12 months. As a member of the Research group, they will participate in product development projects, mill process optimization trials, and qualification testing and failure investigations. The successful applicant will use investigative techniques such as SEM / EDAX analysis, quantitative image analysis, sonic inspection, mechanical testing and metallographic analyses. The student will work as a team member and will participate in planning of trials, data collection and analysis. The position will provide exposure to all aspects of EVRAZ NA operations including steelmaking, casting, rolling, and pipe forming and welding.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Project / Program Work (75%)

Development of project goals and planning

  1. Metallographic / mechanical specimen preparation
  2. Mechanical testing, metallographic analysis, and / or other testing related to project
  3. Evaluation and analysis of results
  4. Preparation of formal report and review with stakeholder

Trial Support (20%)

On-site presence to answer questions, carry out and / or supervise trial and ensure data / samples are collected.

  1. Safety Program, 6S, and R&D quality management program (ISO 9001) (5%)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Enrolled in a recognized Engineering program at a Canadian University and completed a minimum of 1 year of the program.
  2. Preference will be given those in Materials Science or Mechanical based programs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  1. Knowledge of engineering principles including statics and strength of materials
  2. Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D development software or Finite Element Method design packages a bonus
  3. Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  4. Self-starter with passion for improvement
  5. Good organization skills and commitment to safety
  6. Due to the nature of this position, the selected candidate will not be eligible for additional benefits and bonuses
