Job Description
The Project Accounting Analyst is a self-starter responsible for all facets of project and contract financial management. The primary purpose of this position is to provide performance reporting, budgeting/forecasting, analysis, and business support. An essential part of the role is to ensure connectivity and alignment with Finance, Area Managers, Project Controls, Estimating, Payroll, Engineering, Contracts, and clients. The jobholder is expected to work collaboratively with these functions in both support and influencing capacities. This role will lead and sponsor process creation, improvement initiatives, and changes within Redpath Canada Limited.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all monthly financial management information (MI) used by Finance and Accounting teams to monitor and improve performance.
- Conduct project cash flow analysis and present key variables to stakeholders.
- Support monthly presentations with project variance reporting.
- Prepare and submit Labour, Equipment, and Materials (LEMs)/Electronic daily Billings to clients.
- Coordinate collection and submission of documentation required for invoicing, including statutory declarations and WCB clearance certificates.
- Assist procurement and accounts payable in resolving issues, including review and reconciliation of cost coding, purchase orders, and open commitments.
- Perform revenue and accrual entries based on information from Project Controls, Procurement, Project Management, and Finance.
- Ensure Monthly Project Estimates are completed on time.
- Provide timely and insightful analysis to highlight performance, trends, and early indicators of risks or opportunities.
- Perform specialized accounting functions of moderate complexity, ensuring adherence to company policies, accounting principles, and contractual obligations.
- Identify and analyze performance variances against forecasts, plans, or prior years, and follow up on investigations with recommended actions.
- Participate in and support the monthly closing and billing cycles.
- Support management and teams with data, analysis, and support for plans, forecasts, and business initiatives to enable performance and decision-making.
- Assist in determining reporting needs and review data integrity.
- Lead or participate in complex inter-domain projects.
- Resolve escalations or complex issues, focusing on patterns, trends, and root causes.
- Analyze measurements independently to identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Train team members and develop reports and dashboards for performance metrics.
- Lead or collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for performance improvement.
Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
Preferred: CPA (CGA/CA/CMA) or CFA designation.
Work Experience
Required: 3-5 years of experience in an accounting environment, preferably in a project setting with detailed knowledge of contract and change order documentation accounting.
