We are excited to offer a Learning Commons Facilitator position starting mid-August 2024.

The Lethbridge School Division seeks an energetic, collaborative, and creative individual to join a dynamic team. We value diversity and operate in an innovative, fast-paced environment. The Learning Commons Facilitator supports schools by creating accessible environments for individuals and groups to pursue multiple, often simultaneous, purposes. Responsibilities include supporting literacy, numeracy, competency development, and student learning outcomes, as well as providing access to print and digital resources, including technology for learning to foster creation, collaboration, and communication.

The successful candidate will advise students and staff on locating materials and utilizing technology and resources. They may contact other learning commons or resource centers to fulfill requests. They will collaborate with administration and the Learning Commons Committee to select and acquire materials, and support inquiry, play, and imagination through resource provision.

Facilitators promote quality learning resources in various formats, exposing students to Canadian and international fiction and nonfiction that reflect multiple perspectives, enhance literacy and numeracy, and develop interests beyond the school setting.

Work Schedule

24 hours/week - four days per week

This position follows the assigned calendar, allowing for some school breaks.

  • Knowledge of literature suitable for grades 6-12.
  • Experience organizing, implementing, and facilitating Maker Spaces.
Preferred Skills

Experience with programs such as:

  • Word

Computer proficiency may be tested.

Additional Requirements

Applicants should support Christian education and our mission. Please submit a Philosophy of Christian Education and at least one faith-based reference.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary diploma and relevant experience.
  • If lacking a two-year diploma, completion of five courses at Mohawk College is required.
  • Combination of education and experience acceptable.
  • Proof of Grade 12 or GED; foreign credentials require ECA confirmation.
Assets
  • Post-secondary diploma in Library and Information Technician with related experience.
Employment Conditions

New employees must provide:

  • Police check including Vulnerable Sector and RCMP clearance.
  • Intervention Record Check from Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of ID (driver’s license, ID card, passport, or Nexus).
  • Social Insurance Number documentation.
Compensation & Benefits

The wage range is $23.85 - $25.00/hour, based on experience.
