Introduction

The Payroll Clerk will be responsible for processing a bi-weekly payroll for a large group of Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education employees, using multiple computer programs including Excel, SAP, Easy Connect, and Integrated Services. This includes compiling employee timekeeping information, ensuring accurate calculations of pay and deductions based on hours worked, producing reports and employment records. The position also involves responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll and investigating and resolving payroll errors promptly.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Completion of Grade 12.
  2. Recognized Business Diploma/Degree from Community College or University.
  3. Proficiency with spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Excel), including functions and formulas; an exercise will be provided at interview.
  4. Proficiency in word processing (Microsoft Word); an exercise will be provided at interview.
  5. Payroll experience.
  6. Familiarity with unionized payroll.
  7. Experience working with private and confidential information.
  8. Proven success in fast-paced, high-volume, detail-oriented work environments.

Additional Assets

  • 2 years’ experience in payroll procedures, including proficiency with computerized payroll/HR systems.
  • PCP Designation through the Canadian Payroll Association or equivalent training/experience.
  • SAP Payroll experience.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to balance speed and accuracy under pressure.
  • Understanding of collective agreements and payroll compliance.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills for employee inquiries.
  • Team-oriented with a positive work attitude.
