2024-2029 Strategic Plan
Our 2024-2025 achievements demonstrate the dedication and determination of everyone who stands up for Scarborough. Our generous donors, visionary leaders, and committed campaign volunteers are transforming healthcare in this region. At the same time, our dedicated staff show remarkable courage and resilience to meet the unique needs of our community. In alignment with our forward momentum, both SHN and SHN Foundation introduced new strategic plans in 2024, designed to propel innovation and exceptional quality care. Developed by those who work, live, and receive care in our communities, the SHN Strategic Plan 2024-2029 is taking a bold, visionary approach in the healthcare sector. Built on key sets of population and health data that identify trends across Scarborough and Ontario, our new strategic plan uses five interconnected strategic directions to drive us forward.
Scarborough Health Network’s (SHN) Strategic Plan 2024-2029 builds upon the commitments, achievements, and progress we have made since our inception, and elevates our role in providing a more integrated healthcare system for Scarborough. This means going beyond our walls, adapting research and education efforts to the specific health conditions experienced among our community, and working with health system partners to provide seamless and coordinated care. For our patients and their families, this means quicker access to care, right here in Scarborough.
ABOUT SCARBOROUGH HEALTH NETWORK FOUNDATION
Since its inception, Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Foundation has worked with generous donors, volunteers and community members to raise the funds needed to build state-of-the-art infrastructure and purchase the latest medical technology, supporting Scarborough Health Network’s vision to be Canada’s leading community teaching health network.
Our medical teams have done more than anyone thought possible with less than anyone could imagine. Our hospitals have historically been left behind, resulting in obstacles such as the oldest operating rooms in Ontario, outdated facilities, and cramped procedure rooms. Yet, because of our Scarborough grit, these obstacles don’t deter us. They drive us forward, and Scarborough Health Network Foundation is committed to raising funds, empowering our hospitals to do more.
As the Network’s second-largest funder (following government support), SHN Foundation is a key partner and enabler in executing our Strategic Plan 2024-2029. The Love, Scarborough fundraising campaign is helping us to Build It Forward through a multi-year redevelopment strategy that includes ambitious capital expansion and renewal projects. Together, we will ensure our hospitals’ services and facilities meet Scarborough’s evolving needs into the future and deliver exceptional quality care for the 850,000 people we serve.
THE LOVE SCARBOROUGH CAMPAIGN
In January 2022, SHN Foundation publicly launched the Love, Scarborough campaign. The campaign’s initial goal was to shed light on the healthcare inequities we face in Scarborough and encourage the rest of Toronto to back us up. The campaign gave Scarborough a voice and became a movement, mobilizing donors from Scarborough and beyond in support of our Scarborough hospitals.
Thanks to the generosity and belief of our community and donors, Love, Scarborough helped us raise our first $100 million. But it’s just the start. With a revised goal of $200 million, the second chapter of Love, Scarborough marketing launched in January 2024, showcasing the resilience and determination of our healthcare workers as they provide exceptional quality care to patients in outdated spaces. Our staff are performing among the highest number of surgeries in Ontario’s oldest operating rooms and caring for 200,000+ emergency patients in emergency departments built for half.
The extraordinary success of Love, Scarborough has helped generate mass awareness, has inspired transformational gifts, and has shown needed attention onto healthcare inequity and gaps in Scarborough. SHN Foundation is nearing the successful completion of its $200M fundraising campaign and is preparing to launch an ambitious new campaign in support of the Birchmount Hospital Tower.
Together with our community, we can build up our hospitals to a level equal to the incredible people who live and work here. Supporting urgent priorities like expanded emergency departments, centres of excellence, innovative mental health care, and modern diagnostic imaging, there are exciting things ahead for Scarborough Health Network.
