The Bid Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the entire bid management process for Engineering Services Canada's most strategic pursuits. This position supports various market sectors including Transportation, Cities & Development, Industrial & Life Sciences, and Power & Renewables. In collaboration with key stakeholders within the organization, the Bid Director is responsible for developing bid strategies, leading bid teams, and ensuring the successful submission of high-quality bids in response to requests for proposals, requests for qualifications, and other procurement opportunities. The Bid Director position is a highly networked role that requires industry knowledge, strong financial and commercial acumen, and has overall accountability for translating the win strategy into a winning proposal.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.

Your role within the team :

  • Review and analyze bid opportunities to assess feasibility, risks, and potential returns.
  • Conduct bid kick-off meetings, strategy sessions, and progress reviews to ensure effective communication, coordination, and accountability across bid teams.
  • Lead and manage bid teams, including Capture Managers, Proposal Managers, Technical Leads, and other subject matter experts to ensure alignment with bid objectives and timelines.
  • Collaborate with business development, Win Work team members, legal, finance, commercial, and other internal stakeholders to develop bid responses that that meet client requirements.
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction throughout the bid lifecycle, from opportunity identification to bid preparation, submission and post-submission activities.
  • Manage the bid budget, resource allocations, and subcontractor / partner relationships to optimize bid delivery and maximize return on investment.
  • Oversee the development and production of bid documents, proposals, presentations, and other collateral to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with branding guidelines.
  • Lead all scheduled and ad hoc bid progress reviews and make key decisions on bid strategies in response to changing requirements.
  • Ensure 100% team adherence to all Corporate Policies and Procedures including Compliance, Risk and Levels of Authority, approvals, etc.
  • Present bid overview and key information at governance and approval meetings to executive leadership teams Drive process excellence and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate :

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or related field; certification in project management is a plus.
  • Proven track record of success in bid management, proposal development, or related roles, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented and growth mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and Adobe Creative Suite including In Design (Photoshop and Illustrator a plus).
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and drive bid teams to achieve objectives and delivery high-quality and compelling bids.
  • Strong organizational skills, work planning skills, and the ability to coordinate, collaborate and manage concurrent activities by team members.
  • French language proficiency a plus.
  • Excellent communications, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders.
