Director of Safety & Sustainability- Multi-Site

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Operations, the Director of Safety and Sustainability is a dynamic and hands-on leader responsible for driving a proactive culture of safety, environmental health, and sustainability across our manufacturing operations in Canada and the U.S. This role is not about managing from behind a desk—it’s about being on the floor, actively engaging with team members, and leading change through education, influence, and accountability. This role is also responsible for leading and guiding our three EHS advisors across plant locations. The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for employee well-being, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship, with a track record of building strong safety cultures and delivering measurable impact.

What You’ll Do Here:

Safety Leadership:

  • Develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures that foster a zero-incident mindset.
  • Serve as the key driver of safety initiatives—modeling safe behaviors, coaching frontline leaders, and ensuring accountability at all levels.
  • Partner with site leadership to conduct regular audits, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Track and analyze safety metrics and trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, Work Safe New Brunswick and other applicable regulatory bodies in Canada and the U.S.

Environmental Health & Compliance:

  • Lead environmental programs and compliance efforts related to air, water, waste, and chemical management.
  • Maintain all required permits and documentation and ensure timely reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for environmental regulations in both Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with plant teams to minimize environmental risks and reduce the environmental footprint of operations.

Sustainability Strategy:

  • Design and implement sustainability initiatives aligned with corporate goals, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects focused on long-term environmental impact and cost savings.
  • Partner with procurement, engineering, and operations to evaluate sustainable materials and practices.
  • Promote a culture of environmental responsibility through employee education and engagement programs.

People & Culture:

  • Serve as a visible leader and coach our three EHS advisors and plant leadership teams across plant locations.
  • Conduct training and development initiatives that empower employees at all levels to own safety and sustainability.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration.
  • Lead by example—being a consistent presence on the floor and in the plants, listening, teaching, and inspiring others.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in safety and/or environmental health in a manufacturing environment.
  • Multi-site leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Canadian environmental and health regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead change and influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in building a safety culture and delivering sustainability initiatives with measurable results.
  • Ability to travel regularly up to 50% to Blacks Harbour, Cape May and Santa Fe Springs.
