Job Description

The Early Literacy Interventionist will provide explicit, systematic instruction, including intensive phonics and phonemic awareness, to students from primary through grade two identified as needing extra support with foundational reading skills. Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing small group intervention within the Nova Scotia Department of Education's framework
  2. Administering literacy assessments for P-2 students
  3. Collaborating with teachers and administrators to identify students needing support
  4. Implementing targeted strategies and activities based on individual student needs
  5. Supporting literacy development in classrooms and transferring skills effectively
  6. Using assessments to guide next steps
  7. Participating in professional development and regional team training
  8. Monitoring and reporting on intervention outcomes
  9. Maintaining accurate records as per SSRCE and EECD guidelines
  10. Promoting equity and fostering a positive learning environment for all students
Qualifications
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate
  • At least five years of successful elementary literacy teaching experience
  • Leadership experience in literacy initiatives
  • Deep knowledge of elementary literacy curriculum, including the Six Pillars of Effective Reading Instruction and Phonics (P-2)
  • Experience with collaborative learning teams and data-driven instruction
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Literacy or related fields is preferred
  • Bilingual skills supporting French Second Language learners are an asset
