Reporting to the VP & Associate General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel position provides sophisticated advice on a broad range of third-party risk management activities, technology contracting, outsourcing, and corporate law matters for the Bank.


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Provide knowledge of third-party risk management, non-disclosure agreements, outsourcing arrangements, licenses, cloud and SAAS agreements, consulting arrangements, and technology aspects of commercial arrangements. Support various client groups within the Bank and represent the Legal Department on various matters including third-party risk management and contractual arrangements.

  • The ideal candidate will be versatile, flexible, and collaborative with strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills and excellent judgement. The ability to give pragmatic advice, review, negotiate, and draft commercial and other agreements, create precedents, processes, and systems, and occasionally instruct outside counsel will be essential to succeed in this role.

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls regarding operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Qualified to practice law in Ontario or another Canadian province.

  • At least 8-10 years of relevant experience gained at a major financial institution or law firm.

  • Excellent knowledge of third-party risk management, non-disclosure agreements, outsourcing arrangements, licenses, cloud and SAAS agreements, consulting arrangements, and technology aspects of commercial arrangements.

  • Versatile, flexible, and collaborative with strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills and excellent judgement.

  • Knowledge of OSFI Guideline B-10.
