What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Pension Investments will support Portfolio Managers in overseeing the operations of RBC’s Canadian Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans, focusing on portfolio performance reporting and analysis. The role involves managing investment risks such as concentration, liquidity, leverage, and market risks, while promoting best practices in controls, monitoring, and operational compliance. This individual will engage in new initiatives, performance measurement, analytics, risk policy development, and relationship management with internal and external partners, including investment managers and pension service providers. Collaboration with teams across RBC—such as the plan’s custodian, Human Resources, Legal, Tax, Finance, and Corporate Treasury—is essential to fulfill these responsibilities. Routine operations like transaction processing and reporting will also be part of the role.

What you will do?

  1. Provide analytical support for managing RBC Pension Plan investment programs.
  2. Maintain accurate and timely information to support investment decisions, monitoring, and reporting.
  3. Lead analysis of emerging risks, portfolio strategy changes, and conduct deep dives into portfolio concepts.
  4. Prepare quarterly performance and risk reports for governance bodies like the Pension Plan Management Committee.
  5. Lead annual risk assessments, review risk controls, and ensure operational risk compliance.
  6. Contribute to developing and implementing governance policies and control procedures.
  7. Monitor cash requirements for investment transactions, including contributions, dispositions, portfolio transitions, and rebalancing, while managing routine transactions.

What you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field with 5+ years of investment experience.
  • Professional designation or progress towards such as CFA, FRM, CAIA, ASA.
  • Expertise in investment disciplines, gained through experience in financial research or modeling within institutional investment environments.
  • Proficiency with computer applications and complex Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of investment sustainability, performance, risk analysis, including ESG integration.
  • Keen interest in financial markets and investments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

  • ESG certification.
  • CIPM certification.
  • Experience with Power BI and Python.
