Alberta Health Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 3G3 Ortho/Spine Uplift Float Unit. The successful candidate will provide patient-centered care, ensuring safety and well-being while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include monitoring patients, assisting with daily living activities, and providing education to patients and families. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills and a compassionate attitude, with a preference for those with experience in Orthopedic/General Surgery.
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family-centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with UAH and AHS policies and procedures. The 3G3 Ortho/Spine Uplift Float Unit is an 18+ bed unit providing care to Orthopedic and General Surgery patients from various sources, including the operating room, emergency department, ICU, and outpatient clinics. The Casual Surgery Float Pool provides relief staffing to 9 units, including Plastic/Reconstructive, General Surgery, Urology, ENT/Otolaryngology, Trauma, and Orthopedic Surgery. Decisions are made collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
As an LPN, you will deliver a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. Your role involves utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making, as well as teaching, counseling, and advocating for patients and families. The LPN provides safe, effective nursing care following hospital policies and nursing standards. You will observe, monitor, report, and document changes in patients' physical, mental, and emotional states, assist with activities of daily living, and provide relevant information and education to patients and families. Collaboration with the healthcare team is essential to deliver consistent, high-quality care tailored to patient needs.
Required: Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program; active or eligible registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA); current BCLS-HCP certification.
Additional: Upload documents (PDF), provide 3 references, and pass the medication calculation exam (80%) within 14 days of orientation. The exam is during orientation or scheduled by the CNE, with 3 attempts allowed within 2 weeks. Must work well in a team, communicate effectively, and have a compassionate attitude. Preference for candidates with over 1 year of recent Orthopedic/General Surgery experience. Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, including lifting and reaching, with no current activity restrictions.
Strong communication skills, ability to handle stressful situations, prioritize care, and work collaboratively. Excellent patient teaching skills, reliability, flexibility, and critical thinking are valued. Rotation schedule is subject to change.
