Housekeeping Aide/Housekeeper
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 10
- Ability to operate appropriate mechanical equipment (washer, dryer, vacuum cleaner, burnisher, auto scrubber, Clorox 360)
- Understanding of infection control principles
- Working knowledge of WHMIS, Inventory Management & Control
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Experience
Experience in an institutionalized setting, preferably long-term care
Work Area
Nursing Units - Long Term Care Facility
Hours of Work
- Day Shift: 0800 to 1600, Paid hours = 7.5, Breaks: 1130 & 1430 (30 min)
- Evening Shift 1: 1300 to 1900, Paid hours = 5.5, Break: 1630 (45 min)
- Evening Shift 2: 1630 to 2230, Paid hours = 5.5, Break: 2000 to 2045 (45 min)
- Night Shift: 2230 to 0630, Paid hours = 7.5, Breaks: 0130 & 0430 (30 min)

Key Accountabilities
Maintaining Clean and Safe Environment
- Removing waste
- Adhering to legislative requirements (e.g., WHMIS)
- Vacuuming, dusting, emptying wastebaskets, rearranging furniture
- Daily cleaning and disinfecting all resident areas
- Sweeping/mopping floors
- Spot cleaning
- Infection control
- Mixing cleaning solutions
- Using appropriate levels of supplies
- Heavy cleaning (windows and walls)
- Preparing rooms for new residents (deep cleaning)
- Reporting on broken equipment and building repair needs
Maintaining Stock and Supplies
- Monitoring inventory of supplies
- Informing supervisor of supply needs
- Replenishing supplies
Customer Service
- Ensuring resident privacy
- Respecting resident’s property
- Advocating on behalf of the resident
Occupational Health And Safety Accountabilities
- Carry out all duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy
- Follow safe work practices as directed by supervisor and legislation
- Participate in occupational health and safety training
- Use appropriate equipment and wear PPE as required
- Report health and safety hazards or violations
- Refrain from conduct that risks safety
- Perform walking, standing, squatting, reaching, and lifting
