We are seeking qualified Heavy Duty Technicians to join our Mobile Maintenance Team. Applicants should include a copy of their trade qualifications or certificates in their resume. These roles are based at our Mary River Mine site in Nunavut, on a 3-week in and out rotation.
Main Accountabilities:
- Perform safety interactions and complete field-level risk assessments before task commencement. Participate in Job Hazard Analysis when required to ensure all risks are identified and controlled.
- Attend and participate in daily safety toolbox talks, periodic safety meetings, routine and statutory safety inspections, and planned task observations as required.
- Develop safe work procedures/instructions and promote safety, health, and environmental awareness and compliance at all times.
- Follow all Baffinland and equipment manufacturer’s procedures/instructions/manuals diligently while performing tasks safely and responsibly.
- Report hours worked and complete detailed service reports accurately and on time.
- Utilize SAP software effectively to document work, order parts, check inventory, and monitor equipment history.
- Monitor mobile maintenance equipment and infrastructure condition to ensure safe use. Recommend and act on areas needing improvement, repair, or correction, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Perform planned and unplanned maintenance tasks, document completion, and provide handovers for incomplete tasks.
- Conduct pre-maintenance inspections and prerelease inspections to ensure equipment safety and reliability, including safety and fire prevention systems.
- Communicate with maintenance planners and supervisors regarding task progress, parts requirements, schedule, and equipment performance; report deviations or deficiencies.
- Implement corrective measures to meet plan objectives in collaboration with supervisors.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes and systems.
- Maintain effective internal communication within the department and with other departments, sections, and contractors as needed.
- This role involves shift work to support continuous operations, including days, afternoons, or nights shifts.
Main Qualifications:
- Heavy Equipment Technician Certificates of Qualification with 5+ years of field maintenance experience on heavy equipment in open-pit mining.
- Welding and fabrication experience focusing on equipment, structural, and ground engaging tools in shop and field settings.
- Extensive troubleshooting, repairs, component changes, and maintenance on specified equipment such as Atlas Copco drills, Cat equipment, Sandvik drills, and various other machinery listed.
- Proven safe work practices and quality workmanship.
- Motivated, hardworking, professional, and capable of working independently in remote Arctic environments.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to act with urgency when necessary.
- Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, failure analysis, and defect identification skills; NDT experience is a plus.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, interpret technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- Language proficiency in English; knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset.
- Certification to operate forklifts, skid steers, cranes, or boom trucks is highly regarded.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience mentoring apprentices.
- Physically fit to perform all job aspects.
