Qualifications

  • Diploma in Social Services Support Work required.
  • Two years of relevant experience or equivalent education and training.

Job description

Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker

BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services
Coquitlam, BC

What you'll do
  1. Monitor clients in accordance with treatment objectives; observe behaviors and symptoms and document observations in accordance with standard procedures. Recognize anticipated/unanticipated client responses to the recovery process; provide verbal reports on changes in client's appearance, behavior, and/or health.
  2. Participate in the admission, case planning, and discharge process for clients by conducting interviews with clients and families, gathering relevant history and records, and attending case meetings. Develop individual care plans collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  3. Establish rapport with clients based on respect; provide emotional support and supportive counseling. Assist with problem-solving, behavior management, and self-care. Discuss treatment goal adjustments with counselors.
  4. Assist clients with daily living activities, including time management, organization, and interpersonal communication. Escort clients to appointments and support skill development and recovery activities.
  5. Participate in case planning; interview clients, document progress, and coordinate services with medical and community resources. Advocate for clients and provide information on available community services.
What you bring
Qualifications:
  • Diploma from a recognized Social Services Support Worker program
  • Two (2) years' recent, relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid B.C. driver's license; personal vehicle for local travel
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Principles of recovery in mental illness
  • Community, social, and health resources
  • Understanding of substance misuse and behavioral management
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and treatments
  • Ability to develop health life skills with clients
  • Awareness of Indigenous issues, cultural safety, anti-racism, and related reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)
  • Commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous rights

  • Hours: Rotating shifts, 0700-1900/1900-0700
