The Healing Place is a new Community Contributions Company (C3) social enterprise located on Mayne Island, B.C. Its vision is to restore and rehabilitate the land through holistic practices that blend traditional Indigenous wisdom with modern innovation. We are situated on unceded territories and are taking strides in restoring ecosystems and building sustainable, resilient food systems.

We aim to operate with a multi-faceted approach encompassing growing, hunting, processing, education, food security, restorative agriculture, climate solutions, and healing. What We’re Looking For :

We are currently seeking passionate Indigenous individuals to join our board of directors and help guide this important initiative. These individuals will bring cultural insight, vision, and experience to The Healing Place's leadership.

Available Positions :

  • Non-Shareholding Director (1 position):
  • This position is ideal for those interested and experienced in food security / sovereignty, land-based learning, or related fields. The director will help shape the strategic direction without holding shares in the company. Preference is given to individuals from W̱SÁNEĆ or nearby Coastal First Nations.
  • Volunteer Board Member (2 positions to start):
  • Help guide with insight in areas such as sustainable agriculture, permaculture, traditional knowledge, community engagement, environmental stewardship, technology, arts, hunting / fishing / survival skills, medicinal plants, or Indigenous economic development. Preference is given to Indigenous individuals from any First Nation within Canada.

As we’re just starting up, but also as we grow, input from the communities we serve is crucial. Deadline: May 29, 2025, for a third Director to join David and Susheela. The other two positions will be available in the coming months. In the future, we hope to expand the board further.

Key Qualities / Experience We Seek :

  • A passion for food sovereignty, land-based learning, traditional knowledge, restorative agriculture, education, or related fields.
  • A strong interest in creating meaningful, long-term impact for people and the environment.
  • Experience or eagerness to contribute to governance, strategy, and decision-making.

What’s Involved :

Directors will participate in monthly one-hour online meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and goals.

  • Our board will focus on maintaining social, cultural, and environmental impact while supporting the organization’s growth.
  • A commitment to attend a 1-hour online meeting monthly, plus 1-3 hours of additional work per month.
