Job description

The Opportunity: Plant Operator

6 Month Term, Full-Time bargaining unit position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.

Nestled within the Traditional Territory of Yukon First Nations, our operations span across 14 distinct First Nations, reflecting our commitment to honoring and working collaboratively within these rich cultural landscapes.

What will you do

Be part of a close‑knit team in Whitehorse, Yukon, dedicated to powering our community. As a key team member, you will:

  1. Ensure Safe and Efficient Operations: Work directly with our hydro, diesel, and gas generating units to maintain a safe and reliable power supply for Whitehorse.
  2. Lead and Support Essential Equipment: Report to the Supervisor of Plant Operators, act as Operator‑in‑Charge when on shift, and oversee contractors as needed while operating and maintaining critical auxiliary systems.
  3. Perform Hands‑On Maintenance: Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on all generating and auxiliary equipment, contributing to the resilience of Whitehorse’s energy infrastructure.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Preference for 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate or relevant trade experience
  • Experience with stationary equipment and/or a trade ticket
  • Proven history of operating electrical generation equipment
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Experience with Windows-based computer software applications
  • A proven track record and commitment to safe procedures and encouraging a safe work environment
  • WHMIS, confined space, and forklift training
  • LNG specific training (cryogenic properties and hazards)
  • A valid Yukon class 5 driver’s license
  • A valid First Aid certificate
  • Ability to work in a team and cross-cultural environment

Competitive Compensation: $40.32-$48.14 per hour PLUS northern allowances.
