Job Description
Position Purpose and Summary: The Store Clerk/Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the manager in maintaining store operations.

This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Who Can Apply:
- Aged between 15 and 30 years on the start date
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Learn more about the program

Eligibility:
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee status in Canada
- International students and temporary residents are not eligible

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet store sales budgets through excellent customer service
  • Attract customers via store layout, window, and merchandise displays; ensure store tidiness
  • Replenish inventory as directed by supervisor
  • Manage inventory by sorting, pricing, and monitoring to prevent shrinkage
  • Ensure safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, fire exits, cleanliness)
  • Complete customer transactions accurately (Visa, debit, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Note: Not all incumbents will perform all duties but will handle similar tasks.

Qualifications and Education:
Completed public school education or equivalent; alternative levels of experience may be considered.

Required Certifications:
Criminal Background Check satisfactory to The Salvation Army.

Prior Experience:
Up to three months of related experience, including life skills.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Physical effort: standing, twisting, bending, reaching, lifting, etc.
  • Concentration: visual monitoring and working with numbers

Financial Responsibility: Responsible for small cash transactions; minimal input into budgeting.

Human Resources Responsibility: Responsible for own work and demonstrating work methods to others if needed.

Work Environment: Typically in-store, with possible exposure to disagreeable conditions like odors, fumes, or verbal abuse. Shift work varies.

Hazards and Precautions: Exposure to minor hazards such as physical attacks, chemicals, moving objects, and risk of injury. Precautions include universal precautions, gloves, and fatigue mats.

Compensation: $15.70 to $16.90 per hour, up to $20.28, based on experience and qualifications. Reasonable accommodations available upon request.
