About RRI

The Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) is a global coalition of more than 150 organizations dedicated to advancing the forest, land, and resource rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, Afro-descendant Peoples, and in particular women within these groups. RRI leverages the strengths and expertise of its members to promote solutions that respect local rights and influence policy reforms. It is coordinated by the Rights and Resources Group (RRG), based in Washington, DC. RRI also launched CLARIFI, a new international funding mechanism to support community land rights and conservation efforts, focusing on scaling up recognition and supporting Indigenous and community-led conservation initiatives in developing countries.

Position: Administrative Assistant

Role Overview: The Administrative Assistant provides essential administrative and operational support to the CLARIFI initiative and its director, ensuring smooth program execution and compliance with organizational procedures. This involves coordinating with regional teams, external partners, and supporting strategic priorities in a multicultural environment. The role requires attention to detail, adaptability, and strong teamwork and communication skills. It is based full-time in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Support: Assist with scheduling, document preparation, maintaining filing systems, and ensuring procedural compliance. Support report and presentation preparation, and facilitate communication with stakeholders.
  2. Coordination and Communication: Act as liaison between teams and external partners, coordinate meetings and events, and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  3. Support to CLARIFI Director: Provide confidential executive support, manage complex calendars, assist with correspondence, research, and prepare travel and expense arrangements, including visa processes and travel logistics.
  4. Intercultural Engagement: Demonstrate sensitivity and adapt communication to diverse cultural contexts across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in administration or related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience as an administrative assistant or similar role, with interest in nonprofit work involving contracts, finance, and logistics.
  • Excellent English communication skills; advanced proficiency in French and/or Spanish preferred.
  • Familiarity with other languages (Indonesian, Portuguese, Swahili) a plus.
  • Strong math and budgeting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Flexible, independent, and committed to social justice and human rights.

Salary Range: $44,720 - $56,160 annually
