Job description

Southbridge Care Homes owns and operates several long-term care and retirement homes throughout many urban and rural areas across Ontario.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Recreation-Activities Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and supervising the departments’ programs and staff.

The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and passion for senior care by delivering high-quality leadership support to our homes.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan, organize, direct and supervise the department program which includes recreational, restorative care, pastoral care, social work, music therapist and volunteers.
  • Implement and evaluate program relating to the five “P.I.E.S.S domains”.
  • Coordinate therapeutic program development and delivery in collaboration with those of other departments.
  • Assess departmental needs and draft an action plan.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor and supervise departmental / programs staff.
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor programming budget.
  • Create and update Resident Health Care Record as they pertain to the department (MDS experience an asset).
  • Coordinate the completion of MDS assessments on all residents within established timelines.
  • Actively participate in the homes’ IDTCs (Inter Disciplinary Team Conference), PACC (Professional advisory care conference), and QIP meeting (Quality Improvement Plan).

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Restorative care, Holistic care, Activation and Dementia Care.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience.
  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating effectiveness of individual and group programming for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English and French language.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards.
  • Previous supervisory experience in long term care an asset.
  • At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required.
  • All applicants must successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check completed within 6 months of hire date.
  • TB skin test or Chest X-ray - completed within 1 year of hire date.
