Title of Course

VISA 3Q99 Advanced Sound Design

Further develop skills and acquire knowledge in digital sound, focusing on recording theory, post-production techniques, and presentation. Students will also learn about installation practices in Sound Art and the use of hardware and software to create sound-based art projects. Lectures, lab, 4 hours per week.

Delivery Method: face-to-face

Schedule: Winter Term Duration 3 (D3), Thursday 1800 – 2200

Compensation

Effective September 1, 2024 - $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours)
Effective September 1, 2024 - $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours). Please note: Instructors with a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Duties

Duties include scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, grading, and course administration, in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement.

Qualifications
  • MFA required.
  • At least two years of university-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with Sound Art as the primary curriculum focus.
  • Thorough understanding of Sound Art history, installation practices, digital audio production, relational art, locative practices, wearable media, basic electronics, and acoustic ecology.
  • Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstation and video editing software.
  • Professional activity in sound design and exhibitions demonstrating standing in the art community.
  • Effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level, evidenced by evaluations or references.
