At BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC), we are committed to excellence in every business initiative. With nearly 500 workers across locations in Peterborough, Toronto, and Arnprior, BWXT NEC supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment, and parts for the CANDU(R) nuclear power industry.

We are recruiting for a Project Controls Lead for our location in Peterborough, ON.

Role Summary/Purpose:

Through leadership of the Projects Control Team (including Project Controls Specialist and Project Coordinators), the Project Controls Leader (PCL) is responsible for the quality & effectiveness of project controls governance, processes, tools, and metrics within the Project Management Organization. They are responsible for the creation, maintenance, implementation, and support of all project controls elements within the Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions (FHES) business.

Accountabilities:
  1. Develop procedures, tools, and best practices to ensure accurate and efficient management of the company’s portfolio and projects.
  2. Lead all members of the PMO toward compliance and understanding of project controls requirements.
  3. Assign tasks to the Project Controls Team to establish procedures, implement, and maintain controls for projects and programs.
  4. Support BWXT with accurate information for decision-making.
  5. Ensure instructions support all PMO procedures.
  6. Oversee and audit portfolio-level resource forecasting.
  7. Improve, audit, and reinforce scheduling, earned-value management, change management, and risk management fundamentals.
  8. Work with the PMO Manager to support specific projects and programs.
  9. Consolidate information sources for reliable reports and reviews.
  10. Support departmental plans and objectives related to project controls.
  11. Empower and support PMO staff in governance creation and maintenance.
  12. Support recruitment, development, performance reviews, and retention of resources.
  13. Lead continuous improvement of governance, procedures, tools, and best practices.
  14. Maintain strong relationships with FHES Management.
  15. Develop strategies to improve organizational effectiveness.
  16. Organize and chair meetings to ensure staff have necessary information and expectations.
  17. Accountable for project data and performance metrics dissemination.
  18. Report, present, and advocate departmental performance data and resource needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • 5 years of project controls experience in a project-based organization.
  • Advanced competency with Oracle Primavera P6.
  • Mastery of project management fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and presenting large data sets.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Leadership capabilities and personnel management experience.
  • Data analytics and critical thinking skills.
Desired Characteristics:
  • 15+ years of industry experience.
  • 10+ years of project controls experience.
  • 5+ years managing a Project Controls Team.
  • Experience in nuclear energy production industry.
  • Advanced database management skills.
  • Project Management Professional certification.

The salary range in Ontario at start is expected to be between $89,000 and $139,000 per year, with additional benefits and incentives based on experience and performance.
