Position Summary:

Legacy Behavioral Health Services is hiring individuals with a passion for making a difference in their community! We are seeking a Housing Specialist to work in Valdosta, Georgia. The housing specialist under the supervision of the Housing Coordinator performs a wide range of tasks in the community to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives while promoting the recovery process. This position utilizes interventions to provide skills training, education and case management to consumers who are currently residing in an independent living situation such as Georgia Housing Voucher Program, Housing Choice Voucher Program, etc. Assists consumers who meet criteria for GHVP/HCV with obtaining permanent supportive housing. Monitor consumer progress toward treatment goals. Extensive documentation required; accurately charts services and consumer progress. Must be able to work well with community agencies and function as part of a team. Flexible hours required.

This position requires:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in one of the helping professions such as social work, psychology, counseling, community counseling, sociology, criminal justice, or human service field. Proven experience can be substituted for formal education.
  • Certified Peer Specialists are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • A passion for connecting with people experiencing homelessness is a must. 1-3 years of working with homeless services.
  • Availability to work flexible hours to provide on-call support and respond to after-hours concerns and emergencies.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency is required.
  • Must have a valid Georgia driver's license with no more than 6 points.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication. Computer experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to keep detailed records.
  • Must promote good working relationships with a variety of programs and agencies across our service areas as well as other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Georgia state and local housing resources and programs is preferred.
  • Experience providing housing services and/or community mental health service preferred.
  • 1-3 years working in the behavioral health and/or substance abuse field is preferred.
  • Certification in Addiction Counseling is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Client Track and Coordinated Entry (CE) preferred.

Working Conditions:

Must be physically and emotionally fit to work in a stress-filled environment to meet deadlines and deal with routine and crisis situations. May have extended periods of sitting, walking, and standing. Requires varying hours of duty to provide monitoring, educational and/or crisis handling, as well as travel to off-campus locations in LBHS or personal vehicle.

Work Environment: Employees in this position may be exposed to potential health hazards in the work environment. Incumbents may be required to work extended periods of time at computer terminals. They may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric and/or deceased patients.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception (may be corrected with glasses or contact lenses). The position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
