Summer Literacy Day Camp Leader

Casual/Seasonal Non-Union Position

Home School Location: New Glasgow Academy

The Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education is inviting applications for the casual position ofSummer Literacy Camp Leader. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Summer Literacy Day Camp Leader will lead recreation programs for participants in lower elementary grades. They are the supervisor of other camp counselors on site and are expected to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the camp. They will be the first point of contact for concerns and questions with the families. The camp leader will be responsible for communicating with parents/guardians prior to the that start of camp on necessary details, as well during the camp. The leader designs activities within a planned recreation curriculum, with the support of the camp counselors and approved by the Regional Lead. Supports for persons with disabilities in programs may be required to develop a specific program plan.

Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as greeting parents and participants, leading recreation activities, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants, organizing equipment and supplies, preparing for activities, distributing and collecting permission slips for outings, organizing outings and special events, participating in staff meetings, assisting and supporting the instructor during literacy instruction. They will also be responsible organizing the purchasing of snacks.

Specific recreation training will be required prior to the start date of the camp and is mandatory. Other training will also be provided as part of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • At least one season/summer of experience working or volunteering with children in a recreational setting or equivalent experience (such as working with children in a school setting)
  • Demonstrated program leadership skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skill
  • Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development
  • Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge, Abilities and Training

  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and Level C CPR
  • Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Records Check

Security Clearance Requirements : Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS : Casual/Seasonal – July 7th, 2025 to August 15, 2025


HOURS OF WORK : 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Weekdays. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule as required.
