If you are an expert in Project Controls and Cost Controls for major projects and are seeking a new role in a dynamic team, then we want to hear from you! The MEG Energy Production Projects team is expanding with an opportunity for an energetic self-starter who is looking to take on a critical role in directly supporting the business through the preparation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Project Controls development, control, and reporting. If you are a forward-thinking individual looking for a new and exciting opportunity, taking on a role that will offer significant growth and learning while continuously improving processes and policies, then this is the role for you!

  • Please note, this is a 12-month contract position with compensation as a straight hourly rate.

Your Day-to-day Will Include

  • Provide and demonstrate safety leadership in accordance with MEG programs, inspiring and motivating others to ensure safety in all activities and taking care of themselves and others.
  • Champion the Project Controls and Cost Control functional activities associated with large and small projects including :
  • Track and report budgets, changes, trends, potentials, current budget, forecast, and variances to budget.
  • Collect, verify, and compile actuals, incurred, committed cost, and progress, including cost investigation to ensure data quality.
  • Calculate and report productivities, performance, earned value, and variances.
  • Identify areas of concern and potential impact on project financial performance. Report on unfavorable variances to aid management decision-making and corrective plans.
  • Work closely with various contractors, review their reporting to ensure MEG reporting accurately reflects the state of the project.
  • Monthly review of remaining work and produce time-phased forecasts and graphing.
  • Development and review of detailed and summary level cash flows.
  • Compile and report monthly outlooks to MEG's corporate financial group, ensuring capital spend forecasts and accruals are accurate and timely.
  • Track weekly labor costs to ensure spending is within budget, making adjustments where appropriate.
  • Ensure all aspects of cost control are implemented correctly.
  • Perform other functions as required by the Project Controls Manager, such as scope analysis, ad hoc reporting, and assisting other areas.
  • Build and maintain respectful, collaborative relations with other groups such as Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, and Contractors.
  • Contribute to MEG’s commitment to ethical activities and policies.

What You Will Bring To MEG

  • 7+ years of experience in project controls and cost controls.
  • Post-secondary education with a technical diploma or bachelor’s degree.
  • Project management certification or formal training in cost control is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls functions including planning, scheduling, cost estimating, change management, and project finance systems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and meeting management skills.
  • Expertise in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard software like Prism Project Manager, LEM systems, and progress tracking systems is a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, self-starter with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to site periodically or to EP offices.
