Position Description
The Department of Economics at the College of Charleston invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor. We seek candidates committed to excellence in teaching, student mentorship, and scholarship. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility for renewal based on performance and departmental needs.


There is an opportunity for the right candidate to engage in interdisciplinary work aligned with the mission of the Center for Public Choice and Market Process by serving as the Center's assistant director.



Position responsibilities:



  • Teaching load

  • A 4-sections per semester teaching load

  • Potential classes include Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and upper-level electives

  • Service and Engagement

  • Actively participate in departmental and school events

  • Engage in student mentorship



Assistant director responsibilities:



  • Assist the Director in advancing the Center's mission by helping define strategic priorities, organizing programs, mentoring students, and promoting the research and public engagement activities of the Center.

  • The assistant director receives a one-section teaching load reduction each semester


Minimum Qualifications



  • Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

  • Strong commitment to student success and mentorship.

The Department of Economics has nine full-time faculty to support various program in the School of Business including the Economic major, the Economics minor, the One-Year MBA program, the Executive MBA program, and the Executive DBA program. The Center promotes the study of market-based solutions to economic and social issues, engaging students and faculty in research and programs that explore the principles of entrepreneurship, individual responsibility, and free-market economics. The College of Charleston is located in historic downtown Charleston in a coastal metropolitan area of 800,000.
