Our client, a provider of custom engineered and fabricated equipment used in infrastructure and manufacturing, is looking for a professional Cost Accountant to join their team.

Responsibilities:

Cost Analysis:

  • Create detailed cost estimates for new projects, considering factors such as labour, materials, overhead and potential risks.
  • Track and monitor costs throughout the project's lifecycle, identifying any potential areas with overspending.
  • Prepare variance reports and communicate findings to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to evaluate the financial impact of proposed changes to a project.
  • Assist in ad-hoc cost analysis as needed to support business decisions.
Inventory Valuation:
  • Assist in the valuation of inventory.
  • Ensure accurate inventory records are maintained.
  • Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations.
Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and analyze project cost-related financial reports, including cost of goods sold, inventory turnover, and product profitability.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the cost accounting process.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new cost accounting procedures.
Project Financial Management:
  • Manage the financial aspects of the projects, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Efficiently enter, maintain, and modify sales orders based on contract requirements and revenue recognition principles.
  • Monthly reporting requirements.
Accounts Payable:

Invoice Processing:
  • Review, verify and process vendor invoices for payment.
  • Maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions.
  • Process vendor payments in a timely manner, ensuring adherence to payment terms.
Accounting Admin:

General Administrative Support:
  • Assist with other accounting tasks as needed, such as general ledger entries, deposits or financial reporting.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in cost accounting, construction accounting or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
