Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This position works in the Roads & Drainage organizational unit. The work of an Equipment Operator 1 entails the operation, servicing and maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment such as small power rollers (under 3 tons); air compressors, concrete saws and tractors with specific attachments. An incumbent of this class will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment; operating medium sized industrial or farm type tractors used to pull a variety of attachments such as three gang mowers, fertilizer spreaders, utility trailers, rototiller, aerator, harrow, post-hole digger and cultivator rake. Other equipment includes operating light tractors such as Kubota L245DT equipped with a small front-end loader and a variety of soil preparation attachments; a concrete cutting saw used in paving and related operations; small self-propelled rollers (under 3 tons); and mobile and stationary compressors and accessories. An Equipment Operator 1 performs routine servicing and minor maintenance on equipment used and maintains simple work records as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation and sound experience in operation of equipment used or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and rules of the same operation of specified maintenance and construction equipment. Good knowledge of the methods and practices used in servicing and maintaining equipment operated. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain simple work records. Skill in the operation of specified construction and maintenance equipment and in the use of tools used in servicing and minor repair tasks; mechanical aptitude. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
