Position: Full-Time, Term, two positions available

Location: New Brunswick, Canada (this position requires in-person services, not virtual)

City: Moncton Area

The Educational Deaf Interpreter (EDI) role involves American Sign Language (ASL) linguistic modeling and support to Deaf signing students, as well as facilitating Deaf culture learning in various educational settings. The EDI:

  • Provides ASL instruction to Deaf students in classroom and social settings
  • Supports students in understanding cultural differences between home and classroom
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, Supervisor of Educational Interpreting Services, Education Support Teacher - DHH, and ASL Specialists
  • Supports student transition from an Educational Deaf Interpreter to an Educational Interpreter

What you bring to the role:

  • Lived experience as a Deaf, deaf, or hard of hearing individual
  • Native fluency in ASL
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Ability to obtain an ASLPI Rating from Sign Language Institute of Canada (SLIC)
  • Functional literacy in English
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team collaboration skills
  • Comfort working in virtual learning environments
  • Adherence to standards set by the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI)

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Early Childhood Education training
  • Deaf Adult Literacy Training
  • ASL/English Literacy experience
  • ASL Instructor training or experience
  • Deaf Interpreter experience or training
  • Linguistic or translation work
  • Community support or advocacy work
  • Residence counseling, summer camp counseling
