About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

As a member of the Mount Milligan Exploration team, the Exploration Geologist will be responsible for assessing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core from a silica-saturated alkalic Cu-Au porphyry deposit and accurately entering this data into an acQuire database. They will utilize Leapfrog software to complete drill hole summaries and generate geological interpretations on paper cross sections. The Exploration geologist will also assist with managing up to two diamond drill rigs and completing field tasks including drill line ups, drill shutdowns, rig inspections, surface sampling, and collar staking and surveying. This is a 4-month Fixed-Term Contract with a schedule of 14 days on, 14 days off, 12-hour days.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Adhere to all mine safety regulations and site policies
  • Assess lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core
  • Ensure accurate data entry into AcQuire and ArcPro databases
  • Utilize Leapfrog Central and Leapfrog Geo for data visualization
  • Manage up to two diamond drill rigs, ensuring safety and coordination
  • Generate paper cross sections and write end of hole summaries
  • Conduct systematic pXRF sampling of drill holes
  • Perform fieldwork including flagging, collar surveys, sampling, and mapping
  • Liaise with drill team daily
  • Conduct site and workplace inspections
  • Coordinate with Geological Technicians for core processing
  • Participate in safety meetings
  • Handle core logistics and organize pulp samples
  • Maintain housekeeping in core and storage areas

About You

The following are essential for success in this role:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or related field
  • Registered G.I.T with EGBC
  • Experience with geological databases, GIS, or modeling software (ArcGIS, MapInfo, Leapfrog, IoGas, AcQuire) is an asset
  • Experience with porphyry deposits preferred
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Capable of lifting core boxes up to 40 lbs
  • Commitment to safety
  • Pre-employment testing required
